Design

What does a designer do?

A designer is the general name of many professions whose representatives constantly generate new ideas, create and improve something. They care not only about the decorative appeal of a website or app but also its convenience and functionality. The profession is connected with world artistic culture, history, creativity, and drawing.

Who is a designer

A designer is a person who develops an attractive and functional shell of any product using his imagination and creativity. Every designer should be able to draw by hand, but skills in working with software and professional devices are crucial: graphics tablets, Figma, Sketch, Adobe Photoshop, and others.

The stages of work of all web designers are similar because initially, they get acquainted with the general idea of the project, listen to the customer’s wishes, or make their proposals. After that, they begin to perform the assigned tasks:

  • Consider the concept of a website
  • Devise a user interface
  • Create layouts
  • Present the design to the client and make edits

Design is a large field of activity in which you are unlikely to get bored. You can start with graphic design and move into web design, digital product, or motion design. There are a lot of opportunities; everyone can go their way, getting a unique experience in the profession. Another important point is that design creates a culture around us, not only visuals. And you can make the world a little better.

Features of the profession

Designers are creative people who can create projects that can “blow up” the market. Conventionally, all types of design can be divided into industries:

  • Image of a person is the development of models of clothes, shoes, accessories, and other things that create an image.
  • Informational – structuring data and presenting it in a form convenient for perception.
  • Printing – development of design layouts for banners, POS materials, and other printing products.
  • Graphic – preparation of materials in corporate style, promotional products, creation of fonts, design of books, etc.
  • Sound – creating sound and noise effects for films, games, cartoons, commercials, and other media products.
  • Architectural – design of facades and interiors of buildings.
  • Landscape – improvement of private, commercial, and public municipal territories.

There are more than 20 types of design, each of which has individual specifics and requires a certain level of knowledge. For example, industrial designers develop concepts brought to life by creating household appliances, industrial equipment, vehicles, inventory, and tools. To work in industrial design, you need higher education. But image designers can complete courses or college to create comfortable shoes, jewelry, and other products for stylish looks.

A separate group should include designers who develop interfaces for websites, games, mobile applications, and graphics. Today, a new generation of designers is being brought up whose activities are closely intertwined with innovation. For example, there are already techno-stylists and wearable energy designers who design clothing and products that have gadgets or power generation features built into them. A bioprint designer creates mock-ups that can be used for the 3D printing of organs and tissues (3D bioprinting).
